- Jimmy rolled out of bed, underslept and groggy. Anne had already gotten up and left the house. Most mornings she went to the gym, either to work out or a yoga class before showering there and going to work, so Jimmy didn't expect to see her until that evening.
- When Jimmy had decided to retire he had made a deal with himself. If he wasn't going to go to work he couldn't take this as an opportunity to be lazy. He couldn't start sleeping the day away, wasting his time. So he made sure to cook suppers, to work on his novel every day, and to set an alarm and wake up at a reasonable time.
